ASTM E84 04.02.2015
The purpose of the E84 test method is to determine the relative burning behavior of the material by observing and recording the flame spread and smoke developed along the specimen. This test method exposes a wood specimen to a controlled air flow and flaming fire exposure adjusted to spread the flame along the entire length of the select grade red oak specimen in 5 1/2 min. This test method is intended to provide measurements of surface flame spread and smoke density measurements with that of select wood specimens under specific fire exposure conditions. -ASTM Standard Test Methods
