In-House Testing
Our product performance is not a question. Within minutes, we know if it is pass or fail! In the early stages of testing we found that in-house testing was necessary to rapidly analyze our performance. We constructed a kiln which enabled us to match the time and temperature curve experienced in the E-119 test. In order to benchmark our kiln's performance, we also tested an E-119 Certified Class A I-Joist purchased in the marketplace. With data loggers we record temperatures from thermocouples which are strategically placed on the OSB web surface and embedded into the flanges prior to coating. We are therefore able to quickly predict with confidence our coatings performance.
The typical test sample is a 9-1/2” x 22” I-Joist with laminated veneer flanges and 3/8” OSB web. It is suspended by wire hangers into the kiln and burned for a minimum of 17 minutes. The temperature curve typically matches that experienced in an E-119 Test. Our after burn examination seeks to determine; depth of intumescent, adhesion and density. The test sample is centerline cut at 11” to inspect for depth of char and overall insulation performance of the coating.
Although there are products that make Certified Test claims for fire retardance, our testing disputes their credibility. We feel that we are alone in the achievement of surface coatings which meet or exceed the required level of fire retardancy performance. Others Can't Compare
With our unique kiln testing capability, we are able to determine the efficacy of competitive products. People often say; a picture is worth a thousand words. We are confident that our tests prove that others simply cannot compare.
